The different types of facelift
The facelift is one of the most well-known cosmetic surgery procedures and also one of the most popular. Offering the patient much younger, firmer looking skin but with minimal scarring, a facelift offers many advantages and very little in the way of disadvantages.
But what few people may realise is that there are a few different types of facelift, all offering slightly different versions of the procedure we think we know.
The traditional face lift addresses slackness all over the face but most notably around the jaw line. Skin is snipped around the ear then pulled back to make the skin much more taut. Any excess skin is then removed. As a result of this kind of procedure, the cheeks and jawline see by far the biggest change.
If this is not suitable however, the mini-lift may be a better option.
Typically for younger patients (around the mid 40s), the mini-lift uses shorted incisions and less skin is removed at the end of the procedure. Due to its more gentle nature, the recovery time for this kind of surgery is decidedly shorter than for a full face lift. However, as it is a much more toned-down version of the traditional face lift, it may not be suitable for people with more advanced signs of ageing.
Lastly is the midface lift, a procedure with markedly different objectives compared to the other two.
This is a more involved procedure that reshapes the face around the cheekbones to give a much more youthful look overall. Like the others, this lifts the skin but the effect is seen much higher up on the face. A more intense addition is to then add fat to the cheekbone area to add further dimension and definition.
So, we all want to look younger, but knowing exactly what options are there for you can make for a much easier and quicker process.
